This is a photo of Ginette, taken on Christmas Day of 2009. As you can see, Ginette was a knitter:
Ginette was une femme formidable. Born in France, she was swept off her feet by Frank, who had been on his way from war-torn Belgium to the U.S., and once he returned to claim her after the war, she moved to the U.S. as well. The home they made together was a refuge of love and laughter, and it became the center of happy gatherings with family and friends. Many of my favorite memories are of visits to their house; it was there that my husband introduced me to his family, and we've been celebrating our Thanksgivings there ever since.
When Frank fell ill, Ginette, herself (almost) as healthy as a spring chicken, took care of him, but at last he passed away. Married to him for 62 years, Ginette followed him this week, not two months after his death. While this fills me with immense sadness, I know that Ginette didn't want it any differently. She had told her daughters this much: she wanted to join her husband and was ready for the journey. She will be missed here terribly.
