(Excuse the mess, if this looks messy. First time blogging on my iPad: I got a new app I'm trying out!)
My collection of this year's "mindless knitting" that I completed while playing with Conrad and between chores (what I recently coined "upstairs knitting," a term that stuck with me, since all complicated knitting happens in the family room, located in the basement. [And just to satisfy my inner perfectionist who calls for an additional explanation: "Upstairs" really isn't upstairs at all, but the main level of our two-level home]).
"Useful little things to keep your neck warm," was the alternative title for this post. Most recently I finished Susan Lawrence's Tuesday Night Cowl, made of Berroco's Flicker, a yarn that has a very subtle sparkle to it (too subtle to show up in the pictures).
The yarn is soft and very light; the cowl a simple cable pattern that makes for an easy knit with stunning results. My mom likes it so much she's making two herself, one for each of her daughters-in-law (my fabulous sisters-in-law). One mod I should mention: I did one extra pattern repeat to make the cowl slightly bigger. I wanted it to be snug but not too snug.
Next is the Mohair Bias Loop, a cowl that many of my LYS knitters have made over and over again... the record stands at 17, I think, and I gave in under group pressure, so to speak, and grabbed my favorite color of Alchemy Haiku to cast on for smaller version of the cowl (smaller because fewer yards: I simply cast on 10 fewer stitches).
I know it: this is going to be a favorite fall accessory!
It's too bad that in the meantime my husband has lost his hat... :/ (Naturally, he wants a new one. I predict it will take me two years to get around to it, at which time he will have lost the scarf. Or something like that. Or I could make him one this fall, along with the Watch Cap my father-in-law asked for two years ago...)
I'm going to punch "publish" and hope for the best.... (Update: app works fine, but the Tuesday Night Cowl photos show up poorly even though they look just fine on Rav.)
Happy 4th of July!!

What a funny coincidence, I just downloaded the Watch Cap pattern! (I want to make a gift hat out of some bamboo I have in manly colors). Love all your "mindless knitting" projects. That pretty much sums up all my projects, since there is never any time without one or both kids. ;) I may try the Mohair Bias Loop. I have some lovely hand dyed mohair that would look great in that pattern!
ReplyDeletethe olive green scarf/loopy thing looks delicious! btw. finally figured out how to get my comments visible in this blog as well: it only accepts comments when I use IE ! (instead of Firefox - which I normally use) weird uh?
